Upping My Grooming Game

Posted on March 8, 2017 By

In recent times I’ve become pretty hooked on men’s grooming products. I’m not quite sure what has led to this new obsession. Perhaps its because there seems to have been a shift in perception of what man ought to look like, and to what degree they should be taking care of themselves.

I have noticed this especially in western cultures. I hate to say it, but I am a bit of a conformer, so this bug has well and truly ensnared me too, and now I can’t get enough of paying care and attention to how I look, and more importantly the products I use during my grooming regime.

In the last few months, I have decided to do away with my beard, but still keep the moustache. I am much more happy and comfortable with this look. This has led to a slight switch in the products I am using on a daily basis.

electric razor

For example, instead of being clean shaven, I have opted to have around 5-6 day stubble at all times. This involves me using an electric razor to shave with every other day. As an aside, can you believe they have razors now that can leave you with stubble rather than a clean shave – it’s crazy!.

I think this is the best look to accompany the moustache, but unfortunately it has caused problems for me. Although having stubble looks great, it does cause me irritation, and unless I actively prevent it, my neck can get sore and in the worst cases break out with a rash. Fortunately I found something called stubble wash that helps combat this. It feels and smells amazing and is something I use every other day, after I’ve finished using my razor.

Other than this, the only other major item that I’ve added to my grooming weaponry is these Ciseaux à Barbe that I found available in france. They are pretty hardy and I can imagine them lasting me a very long time indeed. As well as this, they are sharp and can tackle any hair that is out of place. If you have a similar look to me, with these two items will you be able to keep yourself in a good nick.

No Time Like The Present

I know it probably feels like forever since we last made an appearance on Boston Regional but we have been very busy!

We’ve decided to block out some time in the coming weeks to work on something new for you. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be incredibly epic and I really can’t wait for all of you to see it.

A Stainless Steel Bottle that will make all your friends jealous

Posted on May 13, 2016 By

Welcome back to Boston Regional Challenge! As we mentioned in the previous post – It’s been an awful long while since we last brought out an awesome post, but today is your lucky day!

In this post I’ll be reviewing a stainless steel water bottle that I found online recently and really caught my eye.

Before I get into all the details I thought it would be worthwhile explaining to all of you why I think using stainless steel water bottles in the first place is important.

In order to show this, its important to look at the alternatives. A lot of people nowadays seem to drink their water out of plastic bottles. There are a number of reasons why doing this is not only bad for you but bad for the planet too. The production of plastic is generally bad for the world. It isn’t biodegradable and often ends up in land fill sites or in the ocean. Although plastic water bottles are somewhat useable, they eventually wear, and people are often tempted to replace them with new ones.

stainless steel

This is the problem as it promotes the production of more and more plastic water bottles.

Another issue with plastic bottles is that they can leach potentially harmful toxins into your food. You may think your doing the planet a favour by reusing your plastic water bottle, but you may in fact be harming your own body in turn. Some of the harmful toxins that exist in plastic can be very harmful and it is not advisable to drink from the same plastic bottle for an extended period of time.

So, what are the alternatives I can hear you all ask. The good news is there is many, but today I will only be discussing one – the stainless steel water bottle.

Aside from the fact that they don’t leach toxins into your drink, and can be recycled, stainless steel water bottles are also great because they are incredibly good at retaining heat. That means if you want your drink to be cold or hot for a long time then that is no problem!

Another positive is that they are incredibly easy to clean and re-use again and again.

All in all I think they’re great, and you should check out the link I have left above to take a look at my favourite bottle that is available to purchase today!

We’re Still Alive!

I know we haven’t been in contact for an awfully long time. I blame myself entirely. My life has changed quite a bit since last summer, personal and career wise, but now I am ready to kick on with this blog again.

Woo! Is anyone excited? I certainly am. I’ll be making a brand new post in the coming days. Make sure you don’t miss out!

You cannot go wrong with this beard wash

Posted on August 10, 2015 By

Hello again my trusty readers. My absence has been far too long and I’m hoping to put it instantly behind me with something new for you to feast your eyes upon. So, just what do I have in store for you?

I’m afraid to say there’s a great deal of you who probably won’t find this article of any use, as its only really targeted at men with beards. If you happen to be a women with a beard then feel free to join the party! But in truth, I highly doubt there are any of you out there.

So, why beards? Beards have become so popular in the last couple of years I simply cannot believe it. We have moved on from a time where they were unanimously considered scruffy and untidy and were associated with laziness, unhealthiness, and homeliness.

A bearded gentleman

What do beards mean now? Beards are now associated with virility, class, fashion and strength. Traits that all men should strive to have. Some people may not view beards in this light, but that’s certainly how I see them, and how I think the media and popular culture are conveying them. Needless to say, despite me delaying it for some time, this has had an effect on me, and three months ago was the turning point.

I suddenly woke up and felt the urge, no the need to have a beard. Why was it so sudden? I have no idea. All I knew then was that I was ready to throw away my razor. Now, three months on, I have a healthy and lustrous beard. I couldn’t be prouder of it. The only problem I’ve found with having a beard is the maintenance. I thought having one would save me time, as it meant I wouldn’t have to shave every other morning, but in truth, I do spend a good deal of time each day applying product and styling it with a comb.

Which is a nice segue into the whole point of this blog post – the product review. I’ve been testing out this beard wash over the past few weeks and I really love the way it makes my face feel after using it. It’s deep cleaning, which means I only have to use it once or twice a week. I apply it just like you’d apply a shampoo in the shower. For me, it does a top-notch job, and isn’t too expensive either. For that reason I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

What Direction Should We Be Moving In?

Posted on May 27, 2015 By

We’re trying our best to create a website that is applicable and useful to everyone. I have doubts about this though, and think maybe it would be best for us to focus in on one particular area or niche of products. What do you readers think? Am I onto something hear or just being a doubting Thomas?

Up Next – A Bluetooth Shower Speaker That Blew Me Away

Posted on May 26, 2015 By

Hey again faithful readers. I’m not sure about you but I personally love having a good sing song in the shower. So much so it began to become a bit of a problem within my relationship. You see, my girlfriend and I started living together only a few months ago, and until then she had no idea about my shower habits. Because our flat is quite small, she can pretty much hear me singing wherever she is in the house. This is always especially bad in the mornings, as I have to wake up earlier then her, she usually gets to stay in bed and sleep for another half an hour or so. That was until my loud singing kept on waking her up. I hate to say it, but I must sound nothing like this guy.

Sometimes I forget and I literally can’t stop myself from doing it. After she told me I had to stop I began to think about some potential solutions. I think the main reason why I did sing in the shower, wasn’t because it was a compulsion but because I was always amazingly bored in there. The sound of music usually halted this boredom and would always put in me a good mood, which in turn is a great way to start the day.

shower singing

I told her, what if I replace my singing with some different, more soothing music, and asked her if she thought that would help. We wanted to give it a go, and at first tried using a shower radio. This still kept on waking her up though, as the music kept on changing drastically. I’d heard from a friend that you could buy bluetooth speakers to use in the shower. I’m not sure exactly how the technology works but you connect to any music system in your house and start playing the specific music you want to hear. This was great as it allowed me to play some more ambient music. At the end of the day, I was happy and definitely not bored in the shower, and my girlfriend wasn’t waking up, so everyone was a winner. I couldn’t have done it without a top notch shower bluetooth speaker!

Don’t Go Anywhere

If you’re anything like me then you must spend a lot of time on the internet finding brand new websites, visiting them once and then never returning again. I really don’t want this blog to become one of those websites for you. Because of this I’m vowing to post content regularly, as I want you coming back for more all the time!

First Up – This Is Pretty Darn Cool Nut Milk Bag

Posted on May 23, 2015 By

I’m a bit of a health freak and always a sucker for the latest and hottest health and fitness crazes and fads. I’ve always known about almond milk and good it’s supposed to be for you, but I had never actually go out of my way to make it and try it for myself to see what all the fuss was about.

At first I thought it would be easiest to buy it in a store, but I literally couldn’t find it anywhere, even after scouring all of the markets in my town. I then resolved to making it myself. It was until I’d done a bit of reading online that I realised its actually quite a lengthy and complicated process. I already knew that I’d need to get a blender, as I was completely against the idea of crushing the almonds myself, but I had no idea that you also needed something called a nut milk bag to drain the milk from the almonds after they’d been blended.

This time, I didn’t even risk spending a day out at the shops in town looking for a nut milk bag. I thought to myself, what are the chances of me being able to buy a nut milk bag in the shop if I can’t even buy almond milk! The only other option was finding one online. Luckily I’m quite computer savvy and actually do a lot of shopping online, so I’m not what you might call a newbie. The problem I quickly came across was that there was far too many options. There were so many different bags, that all looked fairly similar, so I had no idea of which one I should go with. I eventually decided to get this Vita Nut Milk Bag because of the good reviews it had got.

It was a fair price and worked well so I was pretty happy with it. If you’re thinking of making your own almond milk soon then I suggest you get your hands on a decent blender, and similarly a good milk bag.

Boston Regional Challenge

I’m a pretty ambitious guy and always like a new challenge. Recently, I’ve become addicted to writing product reviews online. I write an insane amount at the moment. I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge and see if I can write 50 extensive reviews throughout the year, and document it here on this site. The first one is coming up in a few days. I’m looking forward to this!
